International IMPACT Training Workshop
Partners of the European Erasmus+ project IMPACT – Increasing Migration and Climate Change Public Awareness through Collaboration and Teaching (Project n. 2023-1-BE01-KA220-SCH-000166907) successfully completed an international training workshop held in Charleroi, Belgium, from 3 to 5 February 2026.
The workshop brought together approximately 30 participants representing six European organizations, including teachers, youth workers, and social workers, aiming to strengthen their capacities in addressing the interconnected challenges of climate change and migration within educational and social contexts. Hosted at Collège Saint-Michel and organized by the Belgian partner Servicius ASBL, the training focused on raising awareness of climate change as a driver of migration and on promoting social and climate justice through education. The programme emphasized the exchange of best practices, collaborative learning, and the development of innovative, learner-centered methodologies.
Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in a wide range of interactive and experiential activities, such as role-play simulations on climate migrants, migration journey mapping, game-based learning approaches illustrating the “climate domino effect,” data analysis exercises on climate and migration trends, visual storytelling through PhotoVoice, and structured debates on policy and ethical dilemmas related to climate-induced migration.
In addition to the training sessions, participants took part in educational visits of high relevance, including a visit to the Fedasil Reception Centre for asylum seekers and the European Parliament in Brussels. These visits offered valuable insights into European migration policies and the real-life implications of climate and migration dynamics.
The workshop marked an important milestone for the IMPACT project, reinforcing transnational cooperation among partner organizations and highlighting the crucial role of education in fostering critical thinking, empathy, and active citizenship in response to global challenges.
The IMPACT project continues to build a strong European network committed to empowering educators and learners to better understand and address the complex links between climate change and migration through innovative and inclusive educational practices.
