The experiential workshop titled “Climate Change & Migration”, organized by the Laboratory Center of Katerini within the framework of the European IMPACT project, was successfully held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the “Elia” Multipurpose Venue in Katerini.

The event attracted approximately 50 participants, mainly educators as well as citizens with a strong interest in contemporary environmental and social issues. The audience’s response was highly positive, highlighting the relevance and importance of the topic.

The program began with participant registration, followed by an introductory presentation of the European IMPACT project by the Director of the Laboratory Center of Katerini, Mr. Dimitrios Sidiropoulos, who outlined the objectives, partners, and expected outcomes of the initiative .

Subsequently, Mr. Georgios Papadopoulos, a teacher at EPAL Katerini, presented the case of the Horn of Africa, analyzing the impact of climate change on migration flows and the response of the European Union to this phenomenon . This was followed by a presentation from Ms. Vasileia Natsiou, who introduced a practical “toolkit” for understanding the relationship between climate change and migration, offering applicable tools and methods for use in educational settings .

The core part of the event consisted of the experiential workshop, which included two interactive activities. In the first activity, participants engaged in a role-playing simulation focusing on climate migrants, while in the second activity, they participated in a migration route mapping exercise, gaining hands-on insight into the challenges and decisions faced by displaced populations .

The event concluded with a discussion and feedback session, during which participants had the opportunity to exchange views, share reflections, and engage in meaningful dialogue based on their experience.

The success of the workshop, both in terms of participation and active engagement, highlights the importance of experiential learning as a powerful tool for understanding complex environmental and social issues. The Laboratory Center of Katerini continues to actively implement initiatives that connect education with contemporary global challenges, contributing to the awareness and engagement of the local community.
