GPH - Institut de la Providence
GPH - Institut de la Providence is a secondary school attended by approximately 1390 students aged 12 to 20, most of them from Gosselies and the surroundings of Charleroi. The institution also has about 160 staff members (teachers, administrative employees, maintenance staff).
Charleroi is situated in Wallonia, the French-speaking area of Belgium, 50 km from Brussels. In the past, Charleroi was a prosperous region. Nowadays, it is lagging behind in its economic development and has a fairly high unemployment rate.
GPH students are divided into two main study options:
- Transition education (preparing for university or long-term higher education)
- Educational qualification (leading to short-term higher education or working world) with a main stream: the position of educator.
Students who are in the transition education have access to different options: classical studies (Latin/Greek), scientific studies (sciences and mathematics), economics, social sciences, biotechnology and audiovisual. Some students are in an immersion program. This means that some subjects are given only in English.
All gph premises are equipped with interactive boards or projectors. The Wifi network is present throughout the establishment and several computer rooms are available both for the teachers and the students.
Our school welcomes students from different social backgrounds and is a good example of social diversity. Its educational project focuses on helping students from less privileged backgrounds and with school difficulties to avoid dropping out of school and help them to get the CESS degree (upper secondary education certificate).
